Minecraft account imported cant download game

Whenever I go to the game "Minecraft for Windows 10" it says I don't own it; when I go to the game titled as "Minecraft", it says I own it. But when I click on 'Install on my devices', I get a pop-up saying. It looks like you don't have any applicable device s linked to your Microsoft account. I am signed into my account and i don't know what else to do since the only other button on screen is "buy as gift". Edit : I forgot to mention that I got the game with a code from when they were giving out codes if you bought Minecraft Java edition.

I never linked my Windows installation to an email address, and had similar issues, in XBox Live with screen captures , and in the Microsoft Store, installing apps.

I cannot log in to minecraft from my Microsoft account. Has anyone had any success and managed to get in? We don't know yet, but we think you have this error because you probably have downloaded a 3rd-Party Software where you can play Minecraft for free on, or its a mistake that Mojang made in the launcher. These downloads add a host to your hosts file, which prevents you from playing Minecraft servers.

Go in file explorer and go to Windows C: , Windows, System32, drivers, etc, and then you will see a file called hosts. Copy and paste this file to a location you can choose.

Now you can play servers, but if you need to host something in this file follow these next steps. In the Copied hosts file, go delete all lines with the word Mojang in it. After you have done that, move the hosts file back to the location the original one was in You deleted the original one. It will ask you to copy it. Do as it says. Now go launch your version of Minecraft from Minecraft Launcher. Go try to play a server, and it will work! If this does not work, I don't have any other solution because this worked for me.
